Challenge:
Create a Gala event worthy of the grand re-opening. Work through space constraints, logistical details of a large guest list, and create a detail-driven design within a temporary structure.
The Gala celebrated the opening of the Norton Museum of Art’s transformative Foster + Partners-designed expansion with nearly 800 people in attendance.
Harbor Solution:
The Norton Museum of Art required a full service, one stop shop to ensure every detail of their 2019 Gala was a success. With the current expansion of the museum The Norton required a temporary structure to house the Gala. This 15,000+ square foot venue was created by constructing a Clear Span tent within the grounds of museum property just as construction of the new expansion was finishing. Working with the special events team at the museum, the expansion construction team, and in conjunction with the City of West Palm Beach, we created a strategic site plan optimizing the flow of guests. This plan included full power and HVAC for the structure and a kitchen from the ground up. From valet & cocktails at the museum, to service pathways for dinner, a dance floor and seating for 800+, all floorplans were carefully thought out to maximize flow and guest experience.
We also handled full room design- an evening in black and white with shimmering golds. The room design focused on light and reflection- string lights covered the clear roof and additional lighting accented the room with soft yellows, pinks, and golds. Harbor created custom gold lighting units and a gold mirror treatment was used throughout to reflect all forms of light. Tabletops were outfitted with gold linen and white florals by Tom Mathieu.
